Confessions of a Baldwin Acrosonic

For stereo fixed media

The first piano that I owned myself was a tiny Baldwin spinet that I purchased specifically because it would fit through my extremely narrow hallway in Brooklyn. I was always self conscious about bothering my neighbors when I practiced, so I installed a felt mute, which stayed on the strings almost exclusively. All the sounds in this piece are derived from samples taken of that piano and the work presents what I imagine as the frustrated inner life of the instrument - longing to revel in deep, loud resonances, but being incapable because of its confined circumstances.
