For string quartet
Written for the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival
This piece is about the things we try to repress and their inability to stay completely under the surface of our lives. There are only three different notes used in the entire work, which straddles the boundary between sound and silence, reveling in the tension that exists at the threshold of our perception between something and nothing. The audience should be arranged as close as possible to the performers, ideally surrounding them, to best take in the extremely soft subtleties of touch employed throughout.
